SRW Alpha 3 Lightning Round: Selena Stage 2 Flash Day

Phew! That took a long time!

I wonder if some of you thought I've given up the translation. I gotta tell you, it took a lot longer than I thought for this section. I guess it's also because it's a very long gameplay segment. Over 40 minutes long!

Good news is, it's finally done and it's getting uploaded as I write this. It's gonna be a while before it's finished uploaded (300 minutes right now). I hope you guys will enjoy it!

Now, a few notes for playing this stage. It's actually a pretty easy stage and as you'll see, it doesn't take much effort to complete the challenge mission at the same time.

I'd watch out for the Dooben Wolf's group attack. A lot of the side characters in the default formations all tend to have low dodge rate and don't really have spirit commands for dodging. Keep an eye on your other characters within the formation whenever it does the group attack. Best thing to do is take it out quickly.

The Yoera (fish mechs) that appear as enemy reinforcements are very weak. You'll find they aren't that hard to take out but you might need some characters with high hit-rates to hit them sometimes. Keep in mind that when you do a team attack, the leader of the formation will have a hit rate boost which can help compared to doing a single unit attack.

Other notes:
 - The quote "For the preservation of our blue and pure world!" is a motto for a organization called Blue Cosmos (Gundam SEED).

 - The dialogue where Kamille attacks a Yoera for the first time made me laugh a bit. I made him go out of his way to attack the Yoera, but he was blaming them for getting in his way and complaining he doesn't have time to deal with them.

 - The Yoera battle dialogue is not translated...because there's nothing to translate. AI isn't in Japanese so I didn't feel the need to do anything.

 - The dialogue near the end where Judau is saying there's nothing over there and the rest of the Ra Cailum not knowing about the Plant is kinda confusing to me...they seem to know these terrorists were going to do a nuclear attack but I guess they weren't informed about where they were going to attack.

The epilogue of this stage is next, and it's also a very long segment too...Hopefully, I'll be done before the end of next week.

And here is the video below (might still be uploading):

SRW Alpha 3 Lightning Round: Selena Stage 2 Prologue

This took a while. Unfortunately the Gameplay and Epilogue part will probably take longer to translate.

I'm still deciding on which ending I want to go for. I'd like to go for the "Bad Ending" if possible but I've heard it can't be gotten on the first play through. For the moment, I'm still going for the challenge missions as they are easy to accomplish.

Now, onto the notes for this section:

- Team Jelba members have Mr. in front of their names but they might be a Ms. The Japanese honorific "-san" can be a male or female so it's hard to know. Since I don't know too much about Selena's story, so I'm not sure if we'll ever find out about her team mates. If we do and I'm wrong, then ignore my mistake. ;)

- Kamille's parents were MS engineers for Titan (Zeta Gundam series). Emma, probably figured out that's how Kamille was able to get so much information about the Coordinatiors as Kamille's father had close ties to Titan.

- People of Baam were humans seeking a new home world after theirs got destroyed (Daimos series). In the end of Alpha 2, Earth and Baam were able to create an alliance and they were allowed to live on Mars.

- Alpha Numbers were the name of your SRW team in Alpha 2. They essentially saved the world in Alpha 2 and became heros.

SRW Alpha 3 Lightning Round: Selena Stage 1 Epilogue

Last section of this stage is done.

Some of you might be surprised by how often I'm doing an update but keep in mind the first stage is probably one of the shortest stage in the game. I will continue to try and upload more translations as quick as possible but as I've said before, the minimum goal per week is to complete one section. I only work on these translations during the weekdays when I have time after I get back from work. Weekends are reserved for other games I play (ie. Monster Hunter).

That being said, I'm sure you guys won't complain whenever I upload new videos so quickly.

There's not much to note for this video:
- If you don't know, Lt. Jr. is abbreviation of Lieutenant Junior.

- Axis Drop Operation is an event that takes place in SRW Alpha 2. It's borrowed from the Gundam series, Char's Counterattack story where Char tries to drop a massive meteorite Axis onto Earth to bring on a nuclear ice age. In SRW, this was prevented by the Alpha Numbers Team along with a psyco-frame phenomenon like in Char's counterattack.

Enjoy!

SRW Alpha 3 Lightning Round: Selena Stage 1 - Secret Mission

I have to say I'm surprised with the amount of support I'm getting for this project. I didn't expect very many people to show so much support and this has motivated me to work harder for this project.

I have to say I impressed myself in how fast I was able to finish translating the next segment of the game. This is the actual gameplay of the stage. As I have mentioned before, I didn't translate any of the in-game menu or commands and strictly translated the dialogue. I did translate the mission objectives so you get an idea of what's going on.

Now onto the notes for this segment:
- MS stands for Mobile Suits from the Gundam series. I alternate between MS or the whole word depending on the size of the chat box.

- PT stands for Personal Trooper. This is the Banpresto Original's equivalent of an MS. When I say Banpresto Originals, it refers to the mechs specifically designed just for the SRW series.

- You'll notice that the dialogue skips a little during the first battle animation against the R-GUN. Selena is suppose to say "I'll show you how to sting like an ant!" right before Elma says "Don't you mean sting like a bee?" That dialogue is in the video, but it flashes by so quickly that you might not even catch it. The recording didn't actually get cut but rather it was the game itself that cut that dialogue short. I've noticed that it does that on occasion so this might happen in the future as well. I'll make sure I note it whenever it does.

- I had actually recorded this segment twice. The first time ended with me getting a gameover and that was because of luck. Hit rate in the game is quite brutal sometimes and even when I had Selena and Elma use the concentrate command (increase evade by 30%), you'll notice that there was still a 25-30% chance of getting hit by the enemy. In the future, I will start saving at the start of each turn so the stage might not be played in one segment.

- For those of you playing this stage, here's a few tips. Use Selena's concentrate command rather than Elma's. Elma will gain the heal command when it levels up, which can save you if your hit. If you do get hit, it's probably a good idea to dodge during the enemy turn and only attack on your turn. However, if you're going for the Challenge mission, you will have to take some risks like myself and counter some attacks if not all of them.

And now, onto the video:

SRW Alpha 3 Lightning Round: Selena Stage 1 - Prologue

It looks like I've already got a few people interested in this project. This gives me more motivation to keep going.

As mentioned before, I've decide to divide each stage into 3 parts. Prologue, actual stage gameplay, and epilogue.

This is the prologue for stage 1. Hope you guys enjoy it.

One thing to note, I try my best to translate in proper English. But sometimes my Japanese side likes to use Jangrish and screw up my grammar. I have a friend that looks it over whenever he has time but since I want to keep pushing these videos out quickly, he sometimes doesn't have time to look at all of it. So I apologise in advance for my poor grammar or English skills.

That being said, I welcome any suggestions to improve the dialogue. I'm not sure if I'll go back and edit all the videos, but if there's a lot of things that can be improved, I may re-upload some videos after changing it.

A few things to note with this video:
- The beginning of the video is actually the prologue story which is also written in the manual of the game. The Japanese text scrolls really fast and there was just no way I could fit the English translation within the same time frame. Instead, I recorded the background music that plays for the screen and extended the first part so you'll have time to read it.

- Jovian is an inhabitant of Jupiter.

- E.F. stands for Earth Federation. I'm sure some of you probably figured that out on your own though.

- Naturals is a term from Gundam SEED. It refers to humans that don't have genetic enhancements.

- IFF stands for Identification Friend or Foe and it's a military jargon used for identification on radar (thanks to fizzmaster)

- The part where the captain is surprised by Selena's voice is confusing to me as well. I assume Selena had some kind of voice changing device when she had her disguise on.

Now on to the video:

SRW Alpha 3 Lightning Round: Selena Stage 0

Well, I've managed to finish the sub for stage 0. Took me some time and some aid from a friend but I'm pretty happy with the results. Hopefully I can keep this up but it's definitely a slow and time consuming process.

A few notes:
- You'll notice that the gameplay to CG transition gets a bit choppy. I've tried re-recording that part but seems it keeps doing it. You don't miss much (maybe a second or so) but it does kinda skips quickly over Bright's line right after the CG. The sub for it shows up while the CG is still playing so you still see what he says.

- The song that plays at the start menu is by Project JAM and called "Gong". It's the theme song for the game.

- I will mostly be translating the story elements on screen. I won't be translating much of the commands or gameplay related stuff other than some stuff during battle animations. I'll probably translate the battle objectives in the game as well. I'm sure you can use some FAQ's on gamefaqs.com or elsewhere if you require a complete translations for the commands in the game.

- I'm still deciding on whether I want to put the name of the characters inside the chat window. Sometimes English can turn out to be more longer in text and I might not be able to fit it in the chat window with the name in there. I'll keep it as is for now but might change the format later on.

- Ganeden was the last boss in SRW Alpha 2. It tried to seal all humans within Earth in order to protect humans but it also started to attack colonies and anything that is outside of Earth. This war was later called War of Seals.

- STMC stands for Space Terrible Monster Crowd and it's from the Gunbuster anime. Project Carneadas (also borrowed from Gunbuster) was planned to counter STMC threat.

That's about it. Any other questions you might have you can put into the comments and I'll answer them.

Enjoy the video!

Project Coming Soon: Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 Lightning Round

This wouldn't be a lightning round blog without a Japanese translation of some sort and I've started working on a project which will hopefully expand to other games as well.

Currently, I'm working on doing a complete playthrough of the Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 with translations (Literal translation from Japanese is 3rd Super Robot Wars Alpha). It's one of many Japanese games that will probably never see a North American release especially due to licensing issues of the various robot anime in the game. (TmT)

At the moment, I've only recorded the opening CG animation and a little of the first stage which I ended up getting a gameover. I've put up the CG animation on youtube for now for everyone's viewing pleasure but will be redoing the first stage to clear it and get to the first intermission.

The only issue I see is how I'll play the game. As the game progresses, the battle animations can get very repetitive and make the gameplay videos that much more longer. Most stages can take more than an hour or two to clear sometimes if I watch all battle animations. There is a skip battle animation feature in the game but I think I'll keep the animations. You see, the whole charm of Super Robot Wars in my opinion is it's awesome, over the top, crazy battle animations for a lot of the characters. Of course, I may change my mind as I progress further into the game.

The event conversation before and after the stage will completely be on Auto mode as well as any event scenes within the stage. It's a neat little feature in the game that automatically forwards text or conversations without my input.

I'm planning on dividing the gameplay video into 3 parts when uploading to youtube. The event conversation before the stage (Stage Prologue), the actual stage, and then the event conversation at the end of the stage (Stage Epilogue). I'm still deciding on whether I want to include the gameplay video of what I do during the intermission but at the moment I'll probably leave it out.

For those of you who don't know, the game lets you choose between 4 different main characters. Of the 4, I am choosing my least favourite of them all. Her name is Selena Recital. Her mech Assault Scouter (AS) Soleares. Why did I go with a character I don't like? It's because of the new game+ feature in this game. The more rounds I play, the more powerful I can make my characters on the next round. I want to use my least favourite character first and work my way to my most favourite character which should be able to dominate everything easily by the 3rd round of new game+. Whether or not I'll do lightning rounds of those new game+ is still in the air. We'll just have to see how this project goes first.
